Coolest Spider Ever

I have had a spider living in my lavender bush for quite some time, and every so often I check on things in the hope I will finally see her.

This morning I saw an odd round shape in the knotted together pieces of lavender and I began to wonder just what precisely the spider had managed to wrangle into her nest. A gentle prodding with a very long leaf helped me establish that the round thing I was looking at was actually my wayward spider.

Entranced, I found it absolutely necessary to capture her, take her inside and snap some photos. For once the camera even cooperated. Edit to come later.

Some time spent on www.whatsthatbug.com established that she is most likely an orb-weaver of the marbled or pumpkin variety.

In the mean time, little lady orb weaver has been returned to her nest and I have pictures to share.
